In early February 2016, a search was initiated for 57-year-old Jeffrey Scott Turner, a resident of Canton, North Carolina, after he was reported missing by his family. Turner was last seen on the morning of Monday, February 8, driving his 1987 black Toyota pickup truck. The search shifted to Mountain Rest, South Carolina, the following day when local authorities located his unoccupied vehicle near the Chattooga River.
For several days, authorities and Turner's family members scoured the
area. The search came to a sad conclusion shortly before noon on Friday, February 12, when Turner's body was discovered in northern Oconee County, South Carolina.
A post-mortem examination was conducted to determine the cause of death. The Oconee County Coroner reported that Jeffrey Scott Turner died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death was officially classified as a suicide. There were no suspects or arrests in connection with this case.
