On August 15, 2016, a heated online dispute between two men in York, South Carolina, escalated to a fatal real-world confrontation, leaving 28-year-old Antonio Sentell Nichols dead from a gunshot wound. The tragic turn of events was the culmination of a feud that played out on social media, reportedly over a woman.
The conflict began on Facebook, where Nichols and another man, Christopher Gore, exchanged threatening messages.
Nichols, who was reportedly upset with Gore over relationships with female acquaintances, initiated a public and profane tirade under an alias. This online animosity spilled into the streets of York, where Nichols actively sought out Gore.
The confrontation reached its deadly climax on Mighty Joe Trail, where Nichols located Gore on the porch of a residence. According to police, Nichols fired the first shot, striking Gore in the stomach.
