On a cold December day in 2016, a family gathering in Hampton, South Carolina, born of sorrow, tragically descended into further grief. Reginald James, a 44-year-old man from Estill, was shot and killed following an altercation. The man authorities identified as the shooter was not a stranger, but his own cousin, Marvin Lamar Singletary, then 43, of Hampton.
