On a summer evening in Lake City, South Carolina, the life of 20-year-old Devonte Hicks was tragically cut short. On July 2, 2017, Hicks was shot on Salters Street. Following the shooting, he was driven towards Main Street where an ambulance was flagged down for assistance. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Hicks succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the shooting led law enforcement to 18-year-old Ahmad Rasheek
Nesbitt, also from Lake City. Nesbitt was identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting and was subsequently arrested. He was charged with murder in connection with Devonte Hicks's death. On July 3, 2017, Nesbitt was taken into custody and booked into the Florence County Detention Center. The Florence County Coroner's Office confirmed that Hicks's death was a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained. The case against Nesbitt then proceeded through the legal system.
