On July 2, 2017, Devonte Hicks, a 20-year-old resident of Lake City, South Carolina, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The Florence County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting on Salters Street around 6:20 p.m. that evening. According to investigators, Hicks was shot on Salters Street and subsequently driven towards Main Street, where a nearby ambulance was flagged down. Despite being transported to a local hospital, Hicks was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
