On a tragic evening in August 2017, the life of 30-year-old Alonzo Lampkin was cut short following a violent encounter in McColl, South Carolina. Lampkin, a male resident of the area, was fatally shot outside a convenience store on Main Street on the night of August 21, 2017. He succumbed to his injuries the following day, on August 22, 2017, at a nearby hospital.
The incident that led to his untimely death began with a dispute inside the McColl Stop 'N Shop.
The argument, which started inside the store, escalated and moved outdoors. It was there that Antonio Anderson, also of McColl, drew a firearm and shot Lampkin in the chest. Emergency services responded, and Lampkin was airlifted to a hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he passed away at 11:48 a.m. the next morning. The cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement quickly identified a suspect. Antonio Anderson, then 33 years old, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Marlboro County Detention Center to await legal proceedings. The community mourned the loss of Lampkin, who was remembered by those who knew him.
