On a Sunday night in mid-April 2018, 23-year-old Black / African American woman Verkina Townsend was inside a modest home on Windham Street in Bennettsville, South Carolina, when her life was abruptly cut short. Shortly before 11 p.m. on April 15, gunfire shattered the quiet of the neighborhood.
