A neighbor, Richard Watts, recounted hearing the gunshots and then encountering a man whose face was covered and who appeared to be carrying a rifle. According to Watts, the man told him everything was 'okay' and to go back inside. After the man left, Watts discovered the wounded Christian and attempted to render aid, including applying pressure to his wounds and performing chest compressions, but was unable to save him. Christian was a stranger to Watts.
