On the evening of July 7, 2021, in Sumner, South Carolina, a dispute escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 29-year-old Xavier Javon Ballard. The incident unfolded at a mobile home park, where an altercation occurred between Ballard and a woman with whom he had a previous relationship. The situation intensified when the woman's current boyfriend, 18-year-old Jamie Golden Jr., arrived at the scene.
Following the initial confrontation, Golden Jr. allegedly shot Ballard.
Emergency services were called, and Ballard was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. An investigation into the shooting was promptly launched by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Within a day of the incident, authorities announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with Ballard's death. Jamie Golden Jr. was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder. During an interview with investigators, Golden Jr. reportedly admitted to shooting Ballard. Two other individuals were also arrested and faced charges of accessory after the fact.
