In the summer of 2021, the life of a young North Augusta woman was cut short by a senseless act of violence. Rebekah Michelle Clark, a 28-year-old Caucasian female, was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting on the morning of July 15, 2021. The incident occurred at a residence on Audubon Circle in Aiken County, where Clark was struck in the head by gunfire.
Emergency services transported her to Augusta University Medical Center, but she tragically succumbed to her injuries later that day.
A lifelong resident of the Aiken area and a 2011 graduate of South Aiken High School, Rebekah was remembered as a person who loved people and was an active member of Millbrook Baptist Church. Her sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through the quiet community, prompting a swift and intensive investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
Within days, investigators identified a suspect in the fatal shooting: 26-year-old Jeremy Glenn Nobles of Warrenville. Warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Authorities described Nobles as armed and dangerous and appealed to the public for information regarding his whereabouts, initiating a manhunt for the suspected killer.
The search for Nobles came to a dramatic end on July 27, 2021, when he was apprehended in Houston, Texas, following a televised police chase. Nobles was a passenger in a vehicle that led Harris County deputies on a wild pursuit, colliding with other cars before the occupants attempted to flee on foot. He was taken into custody without further incident and held at the Harris County Jail, awaiting extradition to face the charges against him in South Carolina. The driver of the vehicle was also arrested.
