Night Watchman Reuben J. Chappell, aged 58, served the Pierce City Police Department in Missouri. He tragically succumbed to a gunshot wound on December 3, 1900, after being shot on November 24, 1900. Chappell was investigating possible bandits in the rail yards when he confronted three men and was shot through the eye.
