In the late hours of a summer night in St. Louis, a sequence of events unfolded that would end in the death of 28-year-old Corwin Bates. On the evening of August 4, 2014, police responded to a call and discovered Bates's body in a grassy area near Riverview Boulevard and Spring Garden Drive. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
