On October 22, 2014, a violent home invasion shattered the quiet of a residence in Pineville, Missouri, claiming the life of 35-year-old Rodney Frederick. The incident occurred in McDonald County, where law enforcement officers were summoned to the scene following reports of a disturbance. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a harrowing situation inside the home.
A woman and a young boy had been bound by the intruders before the violence escalated, leaving the other occupants helpless as the crime unfolded.
Authorities found Frederick unresponsive at the scene, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the intrusion. Despite the arrival of emergency personnel, he had already succumbed to his injuries, and officials pronounced him dead shortly thereafter. The McDonald County Sheriff’s Department launched an immediate homicide investigation, collecting evidence from the residence and interviewing the surviving victims who had been tied up during the attack.
The investigation eventually led to the arrest of Carl Jackson, a resident of Webb City, Missouri. Detectives linked Jackson to the break-in and the subsequent shooting, building a case that included charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and first-degree burglary. The legal proceedings culminated in a trial at the McDonald County court in May 2016. After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, a jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts. Under Missouri state law, the conviction for first-degree murder carried a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
