In the late hours of a Tuesday in Spanish Lake, a community in St. Louis County, Missouri, the life of 16-year-old Jamon Spates was tragically cut short. On May 25, 2015, the male teenager was at a home on the 1200 block of Redman. A gathering of people was moving from the street into the residence when the sound of gunfire suddenly pierced the night.
The shots originated from somewhere near the intersection of Redman and Lavida Avenue, creating a scene of chaos and fear.
In the midst of the confusion, Jamon was struck by a bullet in the back. Emergency services and St. Louis County Police rushed to the scene to find the young Florissant resident lying in the family room of the home. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit promptly launched an investigation into the homicide. Authorities noted that several people were present at the location just before the shooting occurred.
