The two men had spent the day together, delivering a refrigerator and drinking, but their time together soured, leading to a fatal confrontation.
As the day turned to evening, the dispute between Fisher and Gorichky escalated. Fisher reportedly went to Gorichky's trailer multiple times. At some point during these visits, a heated exchange prompted Gorichky, who was 54 years old at the time, to retrieve a shotgun from his bedroom. He then loaded the weapon and went to his front door to confront Fisher. The encounter ended in gunfire, with Fisher suffering a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen. He succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family and friends to grapple with the sudden and senseless loss.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Frank Gorichky, who was legally prohibited from owning a firearm due to a prior felony drug offense from 1990, attempted to mislead investigators. He initially claimed that he did not intend to kill his friend when he went to the porch with the loaded shotgun. Fisher's sister, Brenda Robbins, later recounted in court that Gorichky was not too intoxicated to take the gun from his bedroom wall, load it, and remove the safety. In April of the following year, Gorichky pleaded guilty to reckless homicide with a firearm specification, having a weapon while under a disability, and obstruction of official business, a charge that was amended from the initial tampering with evidence charge.
