In the summer of 2018, a young life was abruptly cut short in a burst of gunfire in Berkeley, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 5th, police were called to the 8300 block of Graybirch Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but their injuries proved to be fatal.
One of the victims was identified as 16-year-old Anthony West.
The other man was 28-year-old Angelo Shine. In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, investigators from the St. Louis County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Bureau took charge of the case. They began to piece together the events that led to the tragic deaths of the two young men.
Initial statements from law enforcement indicated a belief that the individuals involved in the incident were acquainted with each other. However, authorities did not have any suspects in custody at the time and the investigation was described as ongoing. The community was left to mourn the loss of a teenager and a young man, as they awaited answers and justice that remained elusive in the early stages of the inquiry.
