Naomi Miller, a 61-year-old female, was tragically killed in her own driveway in Pine Lawn, a suburb of Saint-Louis, Missouri. On the evening of January 5, 2019, police responded to a 9-1-1 call and found her deceased from a gunshot wound. The incident, which occurred in the 2500 block of Arden, also involved the theft of her red 2014 Ford Escape. The North County Police Cooperative initially handled the case, with the Major Case Squad of Greater St.
Louis later taking over the investigation.
Authorities sought public assistance in locating the stolen vehicle and identifying those responsible for Miller's death. Their investigation led them to a suspect, Lashawn Travion Clayburn, who was 18 years old at the time of the federal indictment. In February 2020, Clayburn was federally charged with one count of carjacking and one count of discharging a firearm in furtherance of that carjacking, which resulted in Miller's death.
At the time of his federal indictment for Naomi Miller's murder, Clayburn was already in state custody. He had been arrested on March 2, 2019, in connection with the separate death of Chrishaun Hilliard, which occurred on January 17, 2019. For that case, he faced charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, kidnapping, and armed criminal action. Law enforcement officials expressed their hope that the indictment in Miller's case would bring some measure of solace to her family and friends, who remembered her as a cherished member of the community.
