On the evening of February 7, 2019, tragedy struck in Farmington, Missouri, when 39-year-old Shane Miquel Littlejohn was fatally shot. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered the male victim deceased. According to witness accounts provided to investigators, Littlejohn had been outside working on a vehicle with another individual when a man drove up to their location.
The situation escalated rapidly as the driver, armed with a rifle, opened fire, striking Littlejohn three times before fleeing the immediate area.
The witness at the scene was able to identify the shooter as 35-year-old Justin Kyle Brooks. This identification allowed police to quickly focus their search on Brooks. Approximately one hour after the shooting, officers tracked Brooks to a shed located nearby. As law enforcement personnel surrounded the structure and announced their presence, they heard a single gunshot ring out from inside the building.
When officers subsequently entered the shed, they found Brooks dead from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The sequence of events led authorities to classify the incident as a murder-suicide. Because the suspect took his own life as police closed in, there were no arrests made, and the case did not proceed to trial or result in any criminal convictions.
