In the quiet Carondelet neighborhood of south St. Louis, the morning of January 14, 2021, was shattered by violence. On that Thursday, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called to the 6500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of 68-year-old Blaine Tabares, a male resident of that same block.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained fatal puncture wounds.
The investigation into the death of Blaine Tabares quickly led to a person of interest who was disturbingly close to home. Authorities identified a neighbor, 39-year-old Jimmy Carranco, as the suspect. Carranco, who lived on the same block as Tabares, was subsequently arrested in connection with the killing.
Following the arrest, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office brought formal charges against Jimmy Carranco. He was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for his alleged role in the death of Blaine Tabares.
