In the quiet town of Strafford, Missouri, the life of 48-year-old Tonya Rochelle Hicks Huy, a dedicated registered nurse, was tragically cut short on March 20, 2021. A Caucasian female known for her passion for caring for her patients and her love for the outdoors, Tonya was a beloved mother and grandmother. Her sudden and violent death, alongside her parents, sent ripples of shock and grief through the community.

Tonya was recovering from back surgery, and her parents, Ronald and Linda Koehler, had come to help her. However, their extended stay became a source of growing frustration for Tonya's husband, Jesse Huy. This resentment festered until it reached a horrific breaking point. On that fateful Saturday, Jesse Huy retrieved a gun and shot Tonya and her parents in the head as they sat at the kitchen table.
Following the gruesome act, Jesse Huy himself called 911 to report the murders. When asked for a reason, he chillingly stated that he felt intruded upon and disrespected by his in-laws' prolonged presence. He told the dispatcher, 'Well, they wouldn't leave. I've been waiting for a week for them to leave. I've had enough.'
Jesse Huy was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges. The court proceedings revealed the murders were premeditated, fueled by his growing impatience and resentment. For his crimes, Jesse Huy was sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole, in addition to nine years for armed criminal action, ensuring he would spend the rest of his life behind bars.
