On March 20, 2021, a tragic series of events unfolded in a quiet residence near Strafford, Missouri, involving a family gathering that turned deadly. Linda Joyce Koehler, a 69-year-old female, and her husband, Ronald Lee Koehler, had traveled from their home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to stay with their daughter, Tonya Rochelle Hicks Huy, and her husband, Jesse Huy. The Koehlers had been visiting for approximately a week to assist Tonya, who was recovering from recent back surgery.
Tensions reportedly rose within the household as the visit progressed, with Jesse Huy becoming increasingly agitated by the presence of his in-laws.
The situation escalated violently on that Saturday evening when Jesse Huy, feeling disrespected and intruded upon, decided to take lethal action after his in-laws did not leave the property as he had desired. While the three family members were seated at a table, Huy retrieved a gun and shot Linda, Ronald, and Tonya. According to investigators, the victims were each shot in the head, and Huy fired additional rounds to ensure they were deceased. Following the shootings, he contacted emergency services himself, calmly informing the 911 dispatcher that he had murdered three people because 'they wouldn't leave' and that he had reached his breaking point.
Law enforcement arrived at the home to find the bodies of Linda, Ronald, and Tonya. Jesse Huy surrendered to deputies without incident and was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of armed criminal action. During the legal proceedings, he admitted to the killings, maintaining that he felt his authority in his own home had been disregarded. In October 2022, shortly before his trial was scheduled to begin, Huy pleaded guilty to all charges.
