In the early morning hours of December 10, 2021, the life of 32-year-old Tylar Simon was tragically cut short in his Sedalia, Missouri, home. Three male juveniles, ages 15 and 16, forced their way into the residence with the intent to burglarize it. At least one of the teens was acquainted with Simon and his home. A confrontation ensued between the intruders and the residents, Tylar Simon and another man. During the struggle, Simon was fatally shot.
The second man in the home was also assaulted during the incident.
The suspects fled the scene, but an investigation by the Sedalia Police Department quickly led to their identification. Within days, two of the juveniles were taken into custody. The third was apprehended in Kansas City. Detectives determined that the same individuals were also connected to a prior burglary at Simon's residence.
The three teenagers, identified as 15-year-old Charles J. Boone, 16-year-old Andrew R. Knoeferl, and 15-year-old Jayden W. Miller, were charged as adults. The charges filed against them included second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, armed criminal action, and first-degree assault. Boone and Knoeferl faced an additional charge of second-degree burglary related to the earlier break-in. Following the incident, the Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office handled the prosecution of the case.
