I've been reading up on the Hamilton Avenue murders, and I keep coming back to the thought of how incredibly connected and close-knit Emma Valdez's family appeared to be. It’s deeply sad that such a loving household could be shattered in an instant by the horrific actions of those two men. Emma was by all accounts a wonderful mother and grandmother, with her home at the heart of the family. I can't imagine the depth of grief that their friends and relatives must continue to feel to this day. It's a sobering reminder of how violence impacts not just the immediate victims but ripples out to affect entire communities. My thoughts are with all those who knew and loved Emma, her family, and those little ones whose lives were taken far too soon.
