I’ve been reading more about the tragedy that occurred in Monticello, and my heart truly goes out to Monica Gonzalez's family and loved ones. As I understand it, Monica was in the process of separating from Israel Rogel. It’s such a chilling reminder of the dangers that can arise even when someone is trying to move on to a better, hopefully safer, chapter in their life. The thing I keep thinking about is the courage it must have taken for Monica to step out and make such a decision. It's not easy to break away from a relationship, especially when there are children involved. It sounds like she had a network of friends and co-workers who supported her, evident from the vigil that brought the community together. I’m glad that her workplace and community came forward to support her memory and those she left behind, including her young children. It’s crucial for communities to rally around families affected by such violence. Sending thoughts to her family and all those impacted by this senseless act.
