June 21st, 2016, still brings a heavy feeling to many of us in the Fort Wayne community. I've been thinking about the chaos at the scene that morning and how terrifying it must have been for those who lived nearby. Over 50 evidence markers in a normally quiet neighborhood? That speaks volumes about the violence that unfolded. I'm haunted by the fact that Nicholaus's family had to receive that dreaded call and rush to the hospital, only to face the unimaginable loss of their vibrant, talented son. Nicholaus, or "Lil Nick," wasn't just another name in the news; he was a promising young man, adored by his family and friends, with dreams ahead of him. How do you even begin to process that kind of pain and absence, especially knowing that justice hasn't been served yet? There’s a palpable sense of urgency in pushing for answers. It’s incredibly frustrating and saddening that no suspects have been brought to justice. Sometimes I wonder if there are people out there who know what happened but are too afraid or indifferent to speak up. How do we bridge that gap? How can we create a safer environment where this doesn't happen again—or if it does, that we can at least quickly solve it and bring some measure of peace to grieving families? Sending strength and support to Nicholaus's family, and hoping that the community continues to rally around them in their quest for justice. It's time for us to come together and ensure no other families go through such a painful ordeal.
