Hey everyone,
I've been following the Alonzo Smith case for a while now, and something that's been on my mind is how the community has responded since his passing. It's clear that Alonzo was held in high esteem, and his contributions as a long-time employee at Wallace Metals definitely didn't go unnoticed. The neighborhood seems really shaken up by his murder, which makes sense given his character and standing in East Chicago.
I recently read about some community outreach efforts initiated by local residents to both honor his memory and address the violence issue in the area. There have been talks of organizing neighborhood watch programs and increased community gatherings to foster unity and safety. It’s so touching to see how people are banding together in Alonzo's memory, yet it's truly distressing that his senseless death had to be the catalyst.
Has anyone else here heard more about these efforts or know how they’re progressing? I’m curious to see if they’ve made any tangible changes or if the authorities have offered any support. It's a small comfort to think that maybe his death could spark some positive action, though it's tragic that it had to come at such a high cost.
