I’ve been thinking a lot about the role community centers like the Charles Black Center play in our neighborhoods — they’re meant to be safe havens for learning, meeting up with friends, and fostering positive interactions. It’s just so devastating and shocking that Felipe's life came to such a tragic end in a place that should've represented safety. My heart goes out to his family, who have to carry this burden, especially knowing the tragedy happened during such an ordinary errand like buying a phone. It makes me ponder how we can ensure these community hubs are actually safe and protective spaces for everyone. Does anyone know if security measures have changed at the center since this incident?
