Hey everyone, I wanted to talk about something that's been on my mind since the tragic event involving Eugene Dobbin. What really stands out to me is how crucial it is for communities to have forums or spaces where young people can feel safe. It seems like there’s a lack of peaceful venues where teens can hang out without fear or getting caught up in the wrong situations.
Given the circumstances of Eugene’s death, it’s clear that our communities need to focus on providing resources and support for both youth and families to prevent such tragedies. I read somewhere that there are initiatives in some parts of the country where local leaders are setting up mentoring programs and safe spaces for teens to gather—whether it’s sports, arts, or even just community centers where they can relax and talk.
I feel like something similar could really make a difference in places like Indianapolis. Rev. Charles Ellis and the Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition seem to be doing great work, but maybe we can come together to expand those efforts. If Eugene had a safe place he could rely on, maybe his story would be different, and it deeply saddens me to think about that.
Has anyone seen successful community programs in their area that might work here? Let's share ideas and possibly encourage some positive change.
