It's been over five years since we lost Heather Mandujano, and I've been thinking about the bravery she showed during that senseless altercation. Stepping in to try and resolve a conflict between John Woodcock and Adam Walls took such courage. It's so upsetting that her attempt to help ended in her losing her life.
I've heard from some people who knew her that Heather was always trying to make peace and bring people together. It's no surprise that she wanted to intervene that night. She clearly had a kind heart. But it makes you wonder about how we, as a society, can better protect those who try to do the right thing.
It’s a huge relief knowing that Adam Walls' testimony helped bring justice and that the community and law enforcement worked together to ensure Woodcock was held accountable. Heather's family must find some solace in seeing that justice was served, though it will never bring her back.
Does anyone else have thoughts on community safety or ways we might better protect bystanders who step in during these dangerous situations?

The brave actions of Adam Walls also shouldn't be overlooked. Providing crucial information that led to Woodcock's arrest must have been incredibly difficult, especially after witnessing such a tragic event. It's individuals like him who help ensure that justice is served, even in the face of trauma.
I hope Heather's family can find solace in the community's support and the fact that justice was served. The sentence can't bring her back, but hopefully it prevents similar tragedies from happening in the future. My thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this senseless act.
