It's so hard to read about what happened to Angel Castaneda and his family. Beyond the personal tragedy for them, there’s such a weight of sadness knowing how many people in that neighborhood are likely living in fear due to ongoing violence. What struck me most was realizing how the unresolved murder of Angel's cousin Ashley seems to hang over his story like a shadow. It's almost like you can sense the frustration and despair in his grandmother's words as she talks about losing another young soul to the streets. You can see how these repeated tragedies tear at the fabric of a family and a community. It makes me wonder how many families are quietly grieving while feeling helpless. The part that I can’t get past is how Angel was being viewed in light of his pending warrants and past accusations. It makes me question whether his case was thoroughly examined or if the conclusion of suicide stemmed, in part, from his previous troubles. Whether it’s justified or not, the cycle of violence and how it shapes perceptions is so pervasive, and it seems to make closure or justice for victims like Angel and Ashley feel so out of reach for those left behind. I hope the community can someday find peace and that there’s a push for concrete changes to prevent more tragedies like this.
