I've been following the discussions surrounding the FedEx mass shooting, and my heart goes out to Karli Ann Smith's family. One aspect that really strikes me is the way she’s been remembered by her teammates and coaches. Karli was passionate about softball, and it seems like she brought so much energy and positivity to the field. Her teammates spoke about the leadership qualities she showed even at such a young age and how she was always the first to boost morale when practices got tough. It's devastating to think that such a bright future was taken away so suddenly. In one of the local news stories, Karli's high school coach shared how she would organize get-togethers just to keep the team spirit alive, even after graduating. It’s clear that she left a lasting impact on those she played with. The locker room now feels incomplete without her laughter echoing through, they say. It's comforting to see the community holding onto these memories, but it's equally painful to know they must find new ways to carry on without her vibrant presence. I hope sharing these stories can inspire some legislative changes. No family or community should have to remember someone this way. Let's continue to push for change in her memory and honor the legacy she left behind.
