Hi everyone,
I've been following the case of Keleante Brewer and wanted to discuss something that’s been on my mind. It’s heart-wrenching to think about how Keleante expressed his excitement about playing basketball just before he was senselessly taken away. As a fellow Hoosier, this really hits close to home. I can't help but think about the role community safe spaces, like local basketball courts, play for our youth. Keleante likely saw playing basketball as a form of escape and enjoyment, yet it's also a reminder of how these supposed safe havens can sometimes, tragically, become the opposite.
I believe investing in community safety measures and youth programs could help curb such tragic events. With Keleante’s dreams of becoming a rapper and making his grandmother proud, it's clear he had so much potential and ambition. It makes me wonder what more can be done to protect kids like him. Schools and local organizations might play a role in offering safer alternatives and vigilance around these communal areas.
Any thoughts on other ways we could foster safer environments for our young ones? I’m sure the Brewer family, who have suffered so immensely, would appreciate knowing that the community is committed to making sure such tragedies become a thing of the past. Let's keep discussing and come up with ideas that could bring about real change.
Sending my deepest condolences to Keleante's family and friends.
Stay safe,
