I came across a recent article discussing the tragic murder of Dezmonn Nixon in the Carr Square neighborhood. It’s so distressing to see how gun violence is affecting young lives in St. Louis. Another promising life cut short, and my heart truly goes out to his family and friends during this devastating time. I’m curious if anyone else here thinks there might be more to the location rather than it being just a random act of violence? The 1400 block of North 14th Street is known for a lot of foot traffic during the day, yet I’ve read there were no witnesses? It puzzles me. Could this possibly mean the shooter knew their surroundings well enough to avoid being seen? Or worse, knew Dezmonn personally? Stories like this make me reflect on how communities like Carr Square can foster stronger ties to deter violence. It would be a blessing to see more neighborhood watch programs or safe spaces for youth to congregate. Nixon's murder shows the urgency of creating safer environments for future generations. If anyone has thoughts on how community initiatives might help in these situations, I'd love to hear them.
