Has anyone else come across the theory that Sergeant Hummer's death might have been connected to his work on prohibition? I've been reading through historical documents, and it seems like this was an especially dangerous time for officers dealing with bootleggers and illegal liquor operations. Given that Sergeant Hummer made quite a few arrests related to prohibition violations, it wouldn't be surprising if he had some enemies.
I can't help but wonder if there's a possibility that he stumbled onto something big that night, maybe something he wasn't supposed to see. It's heartbreaking to think about how his life and career were cut so tragically short. He was clearly dedicated to his work and seemed to be making significant contributions to his community. For his family’s sake, I truly hope that one day some new evidence might surface to help bring them—and the community—some closure.
I came across the case of Sergeant Elton B. Hummer recently and was struck by how this young officer's life was cut short after only a year on the force. It's so tragic that despite his dedication and bravery, the person or people responsible for his murder were never found. What's particularly haunting is the absence of witnesses and solid leads, making me really wonder about the circumstances that led to him being in that situation. How can someone just vanish into thin air after committing such a horrendous act?
I've read that the Old Town section of Alexandria was a close-knit community even back then. It's puzzling and sad that nobody came forward with information. I can only imagine the frustration and sorrow his family must have felt, seeing the case go cold with no answers. I hope that someday new information might emerge, bringing closure to his loved ones and honoring his legacy. Has anyone else looked into this case or found anything new over the years? I think it's worth revisiting and keeping his story alive.
I've been fascinated by the unsolved case of Sergeant Elton B. Hummer's murder for a while now, and something that strikes me is the lack of witness testimony. Given that Old Town Alexandria wasn't as densely populated back then as it is now, I'm curious about the dynamics in that area during nighttime. Was it common for the streets to be deserted? Or were there enough people around for someone to potentially witness the shooting?
I can't help but think about the neighbors who found him—how shocking it must have been for them. Did any of them ever speak publicly about what they saw, even years later? It's so frustrating how cases from that era can often hit a dead end due to lack of evidence, but it makes you wonder if anyone knew more and simply stayed silent, perhaps out of fear or loyalty to someone else. It's these kinds of lingering questions that leave a heavy weight on the hearts of those who wish to see justice served for Sergeant Hummer and his family.
