I came across the case of Patrolman George Pettit Thomas and I can't stop thinking about what his wife must have gone through after losing him. It's hard to imagine the pain of receiving hopeful news about recovery, only to have it suddenly turn into the worst possible outcome. The bravery Patrolman Thomas showed in his duty, and yet being taken away so suddenly, surely left a profound void in his family’s life. It's a reminder of the risks that officers take every day and the lingering impact their work has not just on them, but also on their loved ones. I hope that the community, which clearly held him in high regard, was able to provide some comfort to his widow in the days following this tragedy. It’s important that we remember and uphold the legacy of those who serve and pay the ultimate price.
