Anyone else following the case of Robert Lohman and the missing CAP Cessna 180? I've been digging into it and something that puzzles me is the weather patterns on the day they vanished. Coastal Alaska often has unpredictable, dense fog, and I wonder if that played a role in the plane’s disappearance? The fact that they were flying a floatplane adds another layer, considering landing spots are more flexible but none were ever found. Just curious if anyone has thoughts on how weather might have impacted the search efforts or if there's any chance it could still be located given these conditions. Curious to hear your theories!
Did anyone find it strange that the weather conditions weren't emphasized more in the reports about Robert Lohman's disappearance? I get that the CAP is trained to handle rough conditions, but that route between Yakutat and Sitka can be notoriously unpredictable. I read that sometimes the clouds roll in fast, and visibility can drop to almost nothing. There's also the whole issue with the strong winds. Could the weather have played a more significant role than we're considering? Maybe it caused them to veer off course? It's wild to me that even with all the search efforts, nothing was found — no wreckage, no belongings, nothing. Does anyone have any insider info on how often the weather really impacts flights like these in that region?
