I've been following the Clayton Kendall Breeding case for a while, and something that's been on my mind is the role of the Innocence Project Clinic in Joshua Andrews' plea deal. It's incredible to see the work these organizations do; they are committed to ensuring justice and really dig into these cases, no matter how complex. In Andrews' situation, their expertise helped navigate him from a death penalty sentence to a life sentence deal. The whole legal process can be extremely convoluted, and it seems like they played a key role in unearthing flaws or maybe even new evidence that facilitated this outcome. It's hard to imagine being one of Breeding's family members and having to relive the case over and over as it moved through the courts. Just thinking about the emotional rollercoaster they must have been on makes my head spin. My heart goes out to them. Would love to hear others’ thoughts on how organizations like the Innocence Project influence cases like this. It's such a tricky balance between advocating for the convicted and holding up justice for victims and their families.
