I’ve been following Miguel Salgado’s case, and it’s just haunting to think about how young he was—only 17. I can’t imagine what his family must be going through. What really gets to me is this idea that Miguel’s story is one of many that play out in neighborhoods struggling with systemic issues. The West Side of Chicago, like many communities, seemed to be caught in a cycle of violence during that time. I’ve read about the initiatives to try and reduce this kind of violence, but it seems like such a huge mountain to climb. It hits me how much the community needs support, not just from law enforcement, but also from social services, schools, and local organizations. Addressing what causes these tragic incidents requires a collective effort. We all need to mourn and remember victims like Miguel while also advocating for change. Every young life lost is a reminder that there’s still so much work to be done for kids growing up in these environments to feel safe and protected. ? Anyone with info on similar programs that seemed to make a difference, or personal stories, I’d love to hear more. We need to keep this conversation going.
