I've been thinking a lot about the different connections in Corey's case, especially the ages of everyone involved. It’s baffling to see such young lives intertwined in something so tragic. Corey had just turned 16, right on the cusp of celebrating his birthday, when this horrible event took him away from his family and friends. Meanwhile, the suspects are mostly teenagers too, except for one who is barely into adulthood at 19. It's just all so senseless. What happened that night that led to such a tragic outcome? It makes my heart ache for Corey's family, having to celebrate his birthday in mourning. There's also a broader conversation here about how our communities are affected by gun violence, and how the youth are often at the center of it. Sending love to Corey's family and hoping that justice will be served, while also wishing we can find ways to prevent something like this from happening again.
