I’ve been following the tragic story of George Carasquillo and can’t help but think about how deeply this impacts his friends who survived him. At just 15, George must have been surrounded by friends who now have to process the loss of someone their own age in such a violent manner. In cases like these, the trauma is not just felt by the family but reverberates through peer groups as well. It’s harrowing to think about the safety issues these kids face daily. Growing up with the fear that someone might not make it home, or that a friend you've shared so many memories with could be taken away so suddenly, is unimaginable. These incidents don't just rob families of their loved ones; they also take a toll on young minds who shouldn't have to navigate these harsh realities so early in life. I genuinely hope that support systems were put in place for George’s classmates and friends to help them process their grief and trauma. Their resilience in the face of such adversity is commendable, and they deserve all the support and resources available. If anyone has insights into how communities have come together to support young people during such difficult times, I’d be interested in hearing more.
