I’ve been following the case discussions, and one aspect that really stays with me is how technology, like those pole-mounted street cameras, played a pivotal role here. It’s just striking to think about how those cameras, generally set up to monitor something as seemingly minor as drug deals, ended up being the key to solving a much more grave crime. It’s a testament, I guess, to how societal infrastructures set up for one thing can end up serving an entirely different purpose — sometimes good, sometimes not. On the other hand, it also makes you wonder, what impact does knowing you’re always being watched have on communities already under so much pressure? It's a mix of comfort knowing justice can be served, but also discomfort thinking about the level of surveillance. I feel deep sympathy for the families involved, who maybe find some solace in the arrests, but likely still feel the profound loss of young lives cut short.
