I've been thinking a lot about the impact of the Cock Island Bar and Grille tragedy on the Portsmouth community, especially for Jermaine's family. It's just unimaginable what they must be going through, losing a loved one in such a sudden, violent way. One thing that really stands out to me in this case is the fact that it was Portsmouth's first murder jury trial since COVID hit. It makes me wonder how the delays and restrictions affected everyone involved, especially the Iriarte family who had to wait for justice amidst all the pandemic chaos. Thinking about the courage it takes to sit through court proceedings at a time when safety concerns were at an all-time high is just overwhelming. For everyone who loved Jermaine, having to struggle with their grief while navigating all the added layers of complications due to the pandemic must have been truly tough. My heart goes out to them as they continue to heal from such a tragic loss.
