I’ve been following this forum and reading about Markiya's tragic story, and it just breaks my heart to think about her family having lost such a young life in such a senseless manner. Something that stood out to me as incredibly alarming was the fact that 23 shell casings were found at the scene. It just makes me wonder how many people in that park were in danger that day, not just Markiya. The sheer amount of gunfire during a family event is beyond anything I can comprehend, and it deeply underscores how urgent the need is for safer community areas. I keep thinking about the other families who were at Carter Jones Park that day, how terrifying it must have been to try to protect their children. It’s genuinely a call to action that we need more measures in place to ensure public spaces are safe for everyone, especially our kids. Sending thoughts and strength to Markiya's family as they continue to advocate against gun violence. They’re fighting an important fight in her memory, and I hope that change is on the horizon so such tragedies aren’t repeated.
