I've been following Sara Hammond's case, and I just can't get over the depth of the family's loss. It's particularly upsetting that such a young life was ended by someone barely out of childhood himself. I keep thinking about how this could happen in a place like Stanardsville, where everyone seems to know each other. What struck me was learning about Sara’s passion for basketball and how she was such an integral part of her team. Her teammates must be feeling an immense loss, not just from losing a friend but also knowing she could have achieved so much more. It's so important for the community to come together and support her family and friends. We need to remember Sara not just for this tragedy, but for the joy and energy she brought to her surroundings. Let’s keep her spirit alive and push for awareness and change so something like this doesn’t happen again.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact of Sara’s high school involvement, particularly with the basketball team at Charlottesville High. It seems like such a small piece of the puzzle, but I can’t help but wonder how those close-knit bonds with her teammates are holding up. It’s got to be incredibly hard for them to process losing someone who was not only a friend but a vibrant, talented presence on and off the court. It’s always tragic to lose someone so young and full of potential. I hope the team has strong support systems in place as they navigate this difficult time. Sara’s love for the game and her teammates surely left a lasting impression on them, and I imagine they’re doing their best to honor her memory. I keep thinking about the younger girls on the team who might have looked up to Sara as a role model. I’m sending thoughts to them, and I hope they know that even small communities like ours are rallying around them. Does anyone know if they’ve organized any kind of tribute or if there's a way the community can help support them?
