I've been following the case of Keilo Anton Martin and have been thinking a lot about the role the restaurant played in the events of that tragic night. It's a reminder of how everyday places can suddenly become scenes of chaos. El Norteno was just a regular spot for many locals to grab a meal or a drink, and then in an instant, it was transformed by violence. My heart goes out to the staff and patrons who were there that night; I can't imagine the trauma of experiencing such a horrific event. Those who were at the restaurant and managed to escape or get to safety because of the officer's quick actions are probably still processing what happened. Places like El Norteno should be about community and connection, not tragedy. I hope the restaurant staff and witnesses get the support they need to heal from this awful situation. And I really hope justice comes swiftly for Keilo and Shavon, so their friends and family can find some measure of peace.
