I've been thinking a lot about the effect this case has had on the VSU community. Daniel Wharton's tragic death shook not just his family, but also his fellow students and faculty who are still reeling from the loss. It’s hard to imagine a young life cut short in such a senseless manner. The way the student body has come together shows the impact Daniel had, even if he was just starting his college journey. Despite the closure from the legal side, the emotional scars remain. I think about the role of universities in fostering safe environments and how this event might change campus policies. It’s important that we have open discussions on how to prevent such tragedies in the future. To everyone at VSU and Daniel's loved ones, my heart goes out to you. Let’s keep his memory alive by advocating for change.
