I can't stop thinking about the role that community support played in Mari Collins' life and, sadly, his death. From everything I've read and heard, Mari was a bright light in his community—not just talented in sports but genuinely admired for his character. It’s so touching, yet so painful, to see how many lives he impacted in his short 17 years. I watched a video from the vigil, and it was moving to see so many people there to honor him. The school representatives and even Portsmouth's mayor stood with his family during that difficult time, a testament to how loved he was. Still, it makes me wonder how all of this ultimately connects. Could better community initiatives and outreach have played a role in preventing such a senseless act of violence? It's just tragic to think that amidst the achievements and support Mari had, his life was still cut short like this. My thoughts go out to his family, friends, and all those who continue to mourn—hoping for peace and healing as they seek justice for Mari.
