Has anyone else here on the forum given any thought to the letters that John List left behind before he vanished? It's really bewildering to me. The lengths he went to in order to justify his actions—it’s just so disturbing. I can’t help but think about Alma, his elderly mother, what she might have thought if she had an inkling of what was coming. Alma was 84, and while John's misguided justifications were intended to ‘save’ them, it feels especially tragic that he included her in this twisted plan. It's terrifying to imagine how deeply he believed in what he was doing, to the point of wanting to justify it in writing. How can someone compartmentalize so much? My thoughts are with the friends and loved ones who had to process such a horrific tragedy and the profoundly skewed motives wrapped up in it.
Hey everyone, I've been reading more about what happened to Alma Marie Barbara Florence, and something that's been bothering me is John List's staunch religious beliefs. It's incredibly disturbing how he twisted his beliefs to justify such an unspeakable act. I can’t wrap my head around how anyone could think such violence would somehow save their loved ones. Just imagining Alma, an elderly woman, and mother, trusting her son, only to be betrayed in such a cruel way, is just beyond comprehension.
I can't help but feel deep sympathy for Alma and the entire family. It's truly a tragedy that their lives ended in such an unimaginable manner, especially at the hands of someone they trusted. I hope they found peace in the afterlife that John, in his delusion, thought he could give them. It makes me wonder about the signs that could have been missed and if there was ever a moment someone could have intervened. My heart goes out to anyone connected to this case who still carries the burden of these memories.
