I've been thinking a lot about the parole of the shooter in Deputy Chief McGuirk's case. It's painful to imagine what his family must have gone through, knowing the person responsible for his death walked free after just 17 years. I get that sentencing and parole can be complex issues, but it feels tough to reconcile in situations like this. It seems like no amount of time would ever feel like enough when someone has lost their life, especially someone who dedicated so many years to keeping others safe. I wonder how the community felt about his release back in 1998. Does anyone remember any public reactions or protests? My heart goes out to his family, who must be feeling this loss profoundly even after all these years.
