I can't help but feel an immense weight every time I think about Officer Abigail Powlett's final moments. The courage it must have taken for her to respond to that call at Meadow Brook Village Apartments just gives me chills. It's a reminder of how unpredictable and dangerous the job can be. I can't imagine the fear and determination she must have felt when the suspect turned her own weapon against her. It’s such a brutal reality that someone so dedicated to protecting others could end up in that situation. My heart goes out to her family, especially her children who have had to grow up without their mom. And to her colleagues in the Plainfield Police Department, I hope they find strength in remembering the bravery and impact of their fallen comrade. Her name at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial stands as a testament to her sacrifice. Rest in peace, Officer Powlett.
