I recently came across information about Johannes M. VanderPaauw’s tragic death back in October 1991, and it really made me reflect on the deep-seated conflicts that can spiral into such horrific events. I find it incredibly unsettling knowing that someone like Joseph Harris could harbor such intense anger that he would plan and execute a violent attack on his previous workplace. It’s haunting to think about how Johannes and his colleague, Donald McNaught, must have felt walking into work that morning, completely unaware of the danger lurking. The whole incident just underscores the importance of mental health resources and conflict resolution in workplaces today. I can’t help but feel for the families who lost their loved ones in such a senseless act of violence. My thoughts are definitely with them as the anniversary of this tragedy approaches. Does anyone else think that there should have been more warning signs picked up by those around Harris before this tragedy unfolded?
